Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bio-Identical | Testosterone Optimization

LOOK & FEEL YOUR BEST AT ANY AGE

Hormone replacement therapy is the process of restoring low or imbalanced hormone levels back to a youthful level. When these low hormone levels are elevated and imbalances are corrected, the result is life changing.

The effects of aging are a natural occurrence. The internal functions of the body become less efficient, causing physical and mental decline. Men and women over the age of thirty are likely to experience low hormone levels or imbalance when this occurs, leading to both physical and emotional changes. Menopause, andropause (male menopause), hypogonadism (low testosterone), as well as growth hormone, thyroid and adrenal disorders are some of the most common.

Our medical specialists use a comprehensive approach to achieve the most optimal benefits. Testosterone alone is not always the answer.

The body is a symphony of hormones, that when all are in balance, lead to a greater utilization of testosterone and increased overall feeling of well being. It’s this understanding of the environment within our bodies that must be recognized by the doctor, monitored and adjusted accordingly in order for us to maximize the benefits of hormone replacement therapy.

Hormone therapy has been proven to slow down, stop and even reverse the common signs and symptoms of aging.

BIO-IDENTICAL HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY IS THE USE OF HORMONES TO HELP RESOLVE SYMPTOMS RELATED TO HORMONAL IMBALANCE OR DISRUPT THE DECLINE IN HORMONE PRODUCTION TIED TO AGING. TO BE TRULY BIO-IDENTICAL WE OPTIMIZE YOUR HORMONE LEVELS WITH CALCULATED DOSAGES BASED ON BLOOD TESTING.

Peptide Treatments

Our doctors can prescribe growth hormone peptides and other peptide therapies that boost your own body’s natural production of growth hormone and other substances. Peptides are a safe way to increase naturally occurring compounds and reach that fountain of youth everyone seeks.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Testosterone replacement therapy helps to restore levels of this hormone to within normal limits. As men grow older and especially as they move into their forties, there is a natural decline in the body’s blood levels of this primary male sex hormone. Testosterone is responsible for the development, regulation and maintenance of the male sexual characteristics:

  • A deep voice
  • Male pattern of fat distribution
  • Bigger and stronger muscles and bones
  • Sperm production and sex drive
  • Face and body hair
  • Growth of the male sex organs during adolescence

Testosterone is also involved in the production of red blood cells. These specialized cells carry oxygen to all parts of the body. When red blood cells are deficient or dysfunctional, a condition called anemia can result. Anemia can make you feel tired and weak because your organs aren’t getting the oxygen they need.

Testosterone is an anabolic hormone. This means that it builds muscle tissue and is the primary reason why most men are naturally stronger than most women. While women also have testosterone, their blood levels are normally about one-tenth that of men’s.

Facts About Low T

Most people have heard of menopause, but not everyone is familiar with andropause. This is the medical term for the natural decline in testosterone that occurs as a normal part of male aging. Andropause is more commonly known as Low T. Men with Low T may experience some or all of the following symptoms:

  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Loss of body hair
  • Redistribution of body fat
  • Decline in muscle and bone strength
  • Depression
  • Confused thinking
  • A lack of motivation and drive
  • Irritability and mood changes
  • Enlarged breast tissue
  • Infertility
  • Decreased libido

Because men don’t often have access to information about Low T, they may not realize why they just don’t feel right and wonder what is happening to them. They may confuse Low T with general aging, but it’s not the same thing. Low T is easily treatable with testosterone replacement therapy or TRT.

How is Low T Treated?

The first thing your doctor will do is conduct a physical exam and ask you questions about your symptoms. Blood will be drawn to check your free testosterone levels. There are two basic types of testosterone in the blood. One form is bound to proteins; the other is not. It’s this latter type that’s called free testosterone because that’s the form your body can use. Most of the testosterone in the body is bound. Only a small percentage is free, but this is normal. Total testosterone refers to the amounts of the hormone present in the blood when the bound and unbound forms are added together.

Although average total testosterone levels vary with age, a generally normal range is about 270 to 1070 nanograms per deciliter of blood. A deciliter of blood is approximately one-tenth of a quart or so. A nanogram is one-billionth of a gram, so this is a very small amount, but hormones are very powerful.

Based on your blood test results, your doctor will prescribe the right amount of testosterone for you. Your hormone levels will be monitored with repeat blood tests over time to be sure you’re at your optimal levels. Dosages can always be adjusted as needed, depending on your response. Testosterone is available in a wide variety of forms:

  • Injections
  • Capsules
  • Dermal implants
  • Topical gels and creams
  • Skin patches
  • Buccal preparations

Dermal implants are tiny pellets inserted under the skin in a simple office procedure. These release a steady supply of hormone over longer periods of time. Buccal forms are like tiny adhesive tabs that you place into the space between your inner cheek and your gum. As the tab slowly dissolves, the hormone passes easily from your oral tissues into your bloodstream. All forms of testosterone require a prescription in the United States. Although you may be able to do so, buying hormones online is a bad idea because you can’t be sure of their quality, ingredients, potency or purity. They could be counterfeit or contaminated, and it’s illegal, too.

There is no need to just put up with the symptoms of Low T. If they bother you, help is available. We offer testosterone replacement therapy as well as many other types of innovative integrative health medicine. If you’d like to know if TRT is right for you, just call us to schedule a professional consultation with one of our highly trained physicians. We love our new patients!
